Keynote Speaker – Robin Grille: Flow States – A Marker For Democratic Education
The psychological state of flow is a natural and vital brain phase that is receiving growing scientific attention. Flow states are readily attained when we understand the environmental conditions that support them, and the conditions that can make them unlikely or impossible.
How important is the role of flow in optimising learning environments? What role does flow play in democratic education, and in education more broadly? How can educators maximise flow–state opportunities at school?
In this presentation, Robin Grille will explore practical, evidence-based insights into fostering intrinsic motivation and flow. Together, we’ll examine how flow can enhance memory, problem-solving, creativity, motivation, persistence, wellbeing, mood and behaviour, while considering what learning might look like if flow-state opportunities became a key measure of educational success. We’ll also explore how schools can create flow-friendly environments and communicate the value of flow to families.
